Kemer is a resort town on Turkey’s southwest coast, defined by its setting between mountain and sea.
Originally named Eskiköy, its current name honors the 23-kilometer stone wall built in 1916–1917 to protect against mudflows. The area was isolated until the 1960s, with road access only improving after the Antalya–Kemer highway tunnel opened in the 2010s, reducing travel time to less than an hour.
Visitors can find Lycian-era ruins like Idyros near the town center, alongside remains from the ancient port of Phaselis, illustrating Kemer’s long-standing historical significance.
Idyros Ruins
Located near Kemer’s center, these Lycian-era ruins offer a glimpse into the region’s ancient past without significant tourist crowds.
Phaselis Ancient Port
Just outside Kemer, the 7th-century BC port city features Roman baths, aqueducts, and harbors along a coastal pine forest.
Antalya–Kemer Tunnel
Opened in the 2010s, this tunnel system cuts transfer time between Antalya and Kemer to about 30–40 minutes by road.
